Arabic Curriculum for Secondary Education (Grades 9–12)

Ortaöğretim I, II ve III. Yabancı Dil Arapça Dersi Öğretim Programı (9–12. sınıflar), MEB 2012 – kapak

Published in 2012 by the Board of Education of Türkiye’s Ministry of National Education, the Secondary Education Arabic Curriculum (I, II and III) was prepared for schools that teach Arabic as a foreign language in grades 9 to 12. Mehmet Hakkı Suçin chaired the committee that prepared it.

The curriculum is based on the CEFR levels A1, A2 and B1. The numerals I, II and III in its title refer to three starting levels (A1, A2 and B1) that reflect pupils’ prior knowledge; schools can place students in these groups through a placement test at the beginning of the school year. Learning outcomes are tabulated separately for each starting level and for grades 9, 10, 11 and 12.

Built on a communicative, action-oriented approach, the curriculum aims to develop the four language skills in a balanced way, to teach grammar implicitly through those skills, and to strengthen intercultural competence and pupils’ ability to express themselves. It also includes themes and content suggestions, language structures, assessment tools and a glossary of terms.

Committee: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Hakkı Suçin (chair), Res. Asst. Ayşe Hümeyra Kütükçü, Leman Yerli, Zeynep Oktay, Ahmet Aytaç, Melek Karadağ, Mehtap Erman, Mevlüt Kaşıkçı.
